Chinese Tourism Spike in the "Golden Week"
“Golden Week” proceeding Oct. 1 the Chinese National Day has provided seven days’ holiday for every Chinese people. Many took this opportunity to travel, either in the country or abroad.
On the first day of this year’s “Golden Week”, highways were congested. Drivers and passengers even brought badminton racquets and shuttlecock to play while waiting on the highways.
Tourists also took over attractions like the Great Wall and the Forbidden City. Tourists climbing the Great Wall complained it took them five minutes to march ten meters. In the Forbidden City, where Chinese emperors used to live, 80,000 tickets were sold out before 1:30 pm.
Besides popular cities at home, many affluent Chinese people took the seven days to travel abroad. Japan, for instance, attracted lots of Chinese tourists with its weak yen and the relaxing visa requirement. From January to July this year Chinese tourists visiting Japan has already numbered 2.8 million, Nikkei reports
